Our Speech-Language Pathologist and Occupational Therapist
Katie Demitroulas OTR/L
NBCOT Registered Occupational Therapist | Certified in Sensory Integration
If occupational therapy had a superhero, it would look a lot like Katie. With over 16 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults across schools, hospitals, clinics, and early intervention programs, Katie brings a depth of clinical knowledge that is genuinely hard to find — paired with a warmth and practicality that makes every family she works with feel supported, understood, and capable. Katie has worked with individuals navigating Autism Spectrum Disorder, Sensory Processing Disorder, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, and a wide range of developmental conditions across the lifespan.
Katie holds a specialized certification in Sensory Integration — meaning she does not just understand sensory processing differences, she has dedicated her career to mastering them. Whether your loved one is overwhelmed by certain sounds, textures, or environments, struggles with fine motor skills, or needs support building the self-help routines that make daily life run more smoothly, Katie has the clinical expertise and the creative problem-solving skills to design strategies that actually work in real life.
What families love most about Katie is her ability to meet them exactly where they are. She does not hand you a generic checklist and send you on your way. She listens, observes, and crafts individualized sensory plans, fine motor programs, and daily living strategies that fit your family's unique routines, environment, and goals. Katie believes that every individual — regardless of age or diagnosis — deserves the tools and support to live as fully and independently as possible. And she has spent the last 16 years proving that belief one family at a time.
Jamie Smant, MHS, CCC-SLP
ASHA Certified Speech-Language Pathologist | AAC Specialist | Visual Supports Expert
If you have ever wished someone could hand you a roadmap for communicating with your loved one — Jamie Smant is the person who will not only draw you that map, but sit down with you and walk through every single step of it together.
With over 20 years of experience as an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist, Jamie holds a Master of Health Science (MHS) degree — a credential that reflects a broader clinical and healthcare foundation than a traditional graduate degree in speech-language pathology alone. It is a distinction that shows up in the way Jamie approaches every individual she works with — as a whole person with a unique medical history, sensory profile, family dynamic, and set of life experiences that all deserve to be understood and respected. Her career has taken her across early intervention programs, school-based settings, and clinical practice — supporting individuals with a wide range of communication needs from the earliest years of childhood through adulthood. Throughout her career, Jamie has worked with individuals navigating Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Autism Spectrum Disorder, complex communication disorders, and a wide range of diagnoses.
But what truly makes Jamie extraordinary is not just what she knows — it is what she creates. Jamie has an almost legendary talent for turning complex communication challenges into clear, beautiful, and highly effective visual tools. Social narratives, visual schedules, communication boards, and AAC systems — Jamie designs them all with a creativity and clinical precision that families and educators consistently describe as transformative. She is equally at home working with low tech picture-based communication systems and the most sophisticated high tech speech-generating devices on the market, and has an exceptional ability to match the right AAC solution to the right individual at the right stage of their communication journey.
For families of non-verbal or minimally verbal individuals who have felt lost, frustrated, or unsure of where to turn — Jamie is the clinician who will meet you with compassion, expertise, and an absolute conviction that your loved one has something important to say. Her mission is simple — to give every individual the tools, the support, and the opportunity to communicate on their own terms.
